Born June ’95 and raised in South London, Jerome McDonald (also known as Arcane) is a conceptual sketch and portrait artist. During his time at the University of Northampton he began to explore himself, illustrating his feelings and emotions through sketching figurative conceptual bodies with faceless, contrasting figures. Over time he developed a deep interest in manga and illustrations and began improving his technical skill as an artist spending time studying human anatomy and other art fundamentals.
After having his own solo exhibition in July 2019, Jerome has begun refining his style using a 0.7mm blue graphite mechanical pencil showcasing his appreciation of form and shape; particularly in eyes and hands.
In 2021 he was accepted onto the royal drawing schools Drawing Year with a full scholarship where he was able to explore various forms of mark-making and studyied under various tutors from range of backgrounds. It was there he began using inks and other tradional mediums to further his practice.
